Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Republic of Rwanda
H.E Ambassador Mesfin Gebremaria Shawo is the current Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Rwanda and Non-resident Ambassador to Republic of the Congo.
He graduated from Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia) and Punjabi University (India) with a BA and MA degrees in Economics, respectively. He joined Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2004 and has worked in various capacities in Missions at the United Kingdom (2004-08), Mumbai, India, (August ,2020 – April,2022) and New York (April ,2022 -January ,2023). In Headquarters, he has been Director General for Consular Affairs (August ,2020 – April,2022), Director Generals for Plan and Budget and Economic Diplomacy (March, 2018 – August, 2020) and Director General, Plan and Budget (Sep, 2009 – August, 2013).
The ambassador is Ethiopia’s Government representative in Rwanda and Republic of Congo. He is responsible for the direction and work of the Embassy, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services. He is married and has two sons and two daughters.
