The 3rd Ethiopia- Rwanda Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) was held in a very friendly atmosphere that truly reflects the long standing, strong and collaborative bond that exists between the two countries. Ethiopia and Rwanda have enjoyed excellent relations and cooperation since the establishment of official diplomatic relation between the two countries. Ethiopia and Rwanda are strategic partners that support each other on regional and multilateral forums on various issues of mutual interest. Ethiopia therefore attaches great value to the relations with the Republic of Rwanda.

As an expression of our collaborative and friendly ties, and to cement the existing strong relation, Ethiopia has at the beginning of this JMC meeting, handed over 7772 square meters of land to the Embassy of Rwanda in Addis Ababa for the embassy’s official use. Ethiopian Embassy in Kigali is also acquired the same size of land in Rwanda.

During the three days meeting, both sides discussed and set directions on diverse issues of common interest across all sectors, such as political and security, economic, social and cultural, climate and environment issues. At the end of the ministerial commission meeting, Memorandum of Understandings on political consultation, cooperation on trade, investment, sport, disaster management have been signed by the respective sectoral institutions.

Both Rwanda and Ethiopia are confident that these agreements would enable them to diversity the areas of cooperation for the benefit of the two countries and peoples. They have also agreed to hold the Joint Ministerial Commission meeting regularly and instructed the experts committee to set up follow up mechanisms on the implementation of the agreements and the decisions of the ministerial meeting.
